I’ve been in the online marketing world for over 10 years, and before that, I spent 30+ years in the financial industry, leading teams and managing operations. But no matter what industry I was in, one truth kept slapping me in the face:

The Day Everything Changed

There I was — managing a financial institution — when the VP of Operations dropped by for a surprise visit.

My lobby was empty.

She looked around and asked, “Hey Sam… how’s business?”

I said, “It’s slow.”

Then she hit me with this:

“What are you doing to fix the problem?”

My jaw nearly hit the floor.

This was a multi-million dollar corporation with endless resources… and they were expecting me — a branch manager — to pull customers out of thin air.

So I asked, “Well… what do you think we should do to attract more people?”

Her answer?

“I don’t know.”

Yeah. That actually happened.

Why That Answer Still Fuels Me Today

That “I don’t know” didn’t just frustrate me…

It lit a fire under my ass.
